My first paper with my new team at the CNRS is out!

When superfluid helium is subjected to steady rotation, quantum vortices align with the rotation axis and spontaneously form a regular lattice. We prepared this lattice in a rotating cryostat, perturbed it with a constant heat flux, and visualised vortex deformation waves propagating through the lattice.

The visualisation was achieved by trapping tiny hydrogen snowflakes on the quantum vortex cores and tracking their wavy motion with a digital camera. Thanks to this approach, we cross-checked indirect experiments from the 1980s and shed light on the physical processes responsible for destabilising the vortex lattice.
