The paper demonstrates how digital holopraphy (a sensitive optical technique) can be implemented in the extreme cold, to detect waves propagating on the surface of superfluid helium. A big team stands behind this effort, as our experiments required building two cryogenic systems, two optical set-ups and lots of coding to analyse all the data.
I clearly remember the day when the experiment worked for the first time – we cheered so much that our lab neighbours had to ask us to calm down a bit. But we were so excited! Seeing this work published as Editors’ Suggestion (and Open Access) is an amazing reward.
